Biking in Katowice

The city of Katowice may still be associated mainly with heavy industry, air pollution, devastated post industrial areas and generally with sad and grey landscape. Even regardless the real economic drive of the city in recent years, the idea of grey Silesia, so common for Poles from outside it (who most likely have never been here), could not be further from the truth in Katowice. Besides the business downtown, some residential and industrial areas, great parts of Katowice are covered with forests and bushes (some of them introduced within post-mining reclamation). There are really much places to go for a bike, ranging from parks for recreational rolling with kids to much more challenging routes via forest or old mine burrows (currenlty mostly covered with green, and often providing demanding slops). And due to the fact that Silesia region is a conurbation, during the longer trip it is not uncommon to cross borders of several cities.

Below you can see a map showing areas in Katowice neighbourghood which, in my opinion, are interesting for various type of cycling. Click on the colored shapes to get more info about each area.
